Poem: Particles

Particles drift from my skin into the air
They flake off and flare up and smooth the tear
Once, long ago, I was dark as the sea
But now I look into the water and the reflection isn’t me.

Things change and skies break and we spin towards the end
We hold onto each other and covet the touch of a friend
Once, days ago, I could hear the stars sing
Today I listen in silence as they continue to ring
